- Reduced pain and discomfort
- Improved gait and posture
- Enhanced overall function and quality of life
Types of KAFOs
There are several types of KAFOs available, including:
- Non-weight-bearing KAFOs: Designed for individuals who are unable to bear weight on their affected limb.
- Weight-bearing KAFOs: Designed for individuals who are able to bear weight on their affected limb.
- Dynamic KAFOs: Designed for individuals who require a more active range of motion.
- Static KAFOs: Designed for individuals who require more stability and support.
How is a KAFO fitted and customized?
At Palmetto Orthotics and Prosthetics, our experienced orthotists will work closely with each patient to create a customized KAFO that meets their unique needs and goals. The fitting process typically involves:
- Initial assessment: Our orthotist will conduct an initial assessment to determine the patient’s specific needs and goals.
- Measurements: Our orthotist will take precise measurements of the patient’s leg, knee, ankle, and foot.
- Casting: A cast is taken of the affected limb to create a mold for the KAFO.
- Fabrication: The cast is sent to our laboratory, where our skilled technicians fabricate the KAFO using high-quality materials.
- Fitting: The patient is fitted with the KAFO in our clinic, where our prosthetist makes any necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit.
